1)  Shalom means peace, wholeness, complete
2)  Chaverim means friends
3)  L’hitraot להתראות

L’hitraot has come to mean goodbye…well, sort of.  You see, in Hebrew there is no literal way to say goodbye (how profound is that).  It is used in a more casual way to say goodbye instead of shalom (which is also used today as a greeting or parting, yet shalom does not mean either hello or goodbye.)  

L’hitraot expresses much more than goodbye.  It is based on the Biblical Hebrew word רָאָה ra’ah which means:  to see.  It literally means: “till we see each other again” and embodies the desire to never part permanently.   

Therefore they lyrics of Shalom Chaverim are saying, “be safe, be complete, be whole and at peace my friends until we meet again.” 

The emphasis is that we WILL meet again!
